Tennis Completes first round of Conference play

Normal- The Alabama A&M tennis teams completed the first round of Southwestern Athletic Conference play this weekend in Baton Rouge, La.

Overnight rains due to strong thunderstorms altered the original schedule prior to the round up’s start; many courts were deemed unplayable forcing many of Fridays matches to be postponed and suspended.

Despite the weather, the Maroon & White began play on Friday, day one of the round up. The Lady Bulldogs defeated rival Alabama State 4-2 at Highland Park, while their counterpart the Bulldogs fell to the Hornets 5-1 at the same location to begin conference play.

Day two saw the Lady Bulldogs fall to 1-1 in conference play after dropping a 6-0 match to host Southern University and a 7-0 match to Alcorn State (games versus eastern division teams only, count in conference standings).

The Bulldogs also lost a 7-0 bout to Alcorn taking them to 0-2 in conference play.

The final day of conference play saw both teams taking on Prairie View A&M.

The Maroon & White teams both ended round up play in defeat, the men fell 7-0 to Prairie View and the women falling 6-1.

After this round up, the men are currently fifth in the league at 0-3, (0-5 overall), while the women are second in the eastern bracket at 1-1 (1-6 overall).

The Bulldog tennis teams will be back in action this Tuesday (Feb. 26^th) as they host Stillman College in their 2013 home opener.
