Men's Basketball Tames The Winless Tigers, 74-47

Grambling, La. -   A warm-shooting second half and three players in double figures Thursday night helped Alabama A&M end a three-game losing streak with a 74-47 win over Grambling State.

The win improves AAMU's record to 10-18 overall and 6-11 in Souwestern Athletic Conference play with one game remaining in the regular season, while GSU drops to 0-26 and 0-17 in the conference with the loss.

The Bulldogs got off to an insurmountable 32-17 halftime lead, then never let Grambling State back in it. The Bulldogs remain unbeaten against the Tigers earning the season sweep.

The Maroon & White got the win with 10 points and nine rebounds from Justan Banks. Demarquelle Tabb had a game-high 14 points and added six rebounds.

A&M’s hot shooting started in the first half going 12 of 31 for 39 percent from the field. The last time AAMU started the season 10-18 was 2006.

This was the fourth blowout win this season. Over the past five seasons, AAMU has been on the winning end of 13 blowout games. A&M has won every game this season (4-0) after committing eight or fewer turnovers. They also have won every game this season (5-0) when opponents record 20 or fewer field goals made.

The Bulldogs have won every game this season (4-0) after recording 74 or more total points. They have recorded more assists than their opponents for the past five games.

AAMU outscored GSU points in the paint 34-22 and second chance points 18-7.

The Bulldogs also took the bench points advantage 27-21. They were no lead changes and no tie scores.
 
For the Tigers, Bryant Purvis scored nine points and two rebounds. Terry Rose collected five points and nine rebounds.
