Lady Hornets Sweep Lady Bulldogs

Box Score

Montgomery, Ala. -  Jasmine Sanders's game-high 18 points was not enough for Alabama A&M to beat its in-state rival Alabama State as the Lady Bulldogs fell, 77-63, to the Lady Hornets on Saturday at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.

A&M’s lack of offensive efficiency throughout the game and State’s big run midway through the second half contributed to the Lady Bulldogs loss.

The Maroon and White shot 29.1 percent on 17 of 58 from the field and 26.7 percent four of 15 from the 3-point line for the game.

Alabama State jumped out to an early 7-2 lead before the first media break and never looked back.

The Lady Hornets shot 21 of 43 from the field for 48 percent and shot six of 11 from behind the arch for 55 percent for the contest. ASU out-rebounded the Lady Bulldogs 42-34.

Aside from Sanders, two other Lady Bulldogs posted double-figures. Junior Brittney Strickland and senior Shundray Davis tallied 13 and 11 points. This was Sanders' 14th consecutive double-figure scoring game.

The loss in Montgomery gives ASU a season sweep over the Maroon & White women's basketball team for the first time since the 2005-06 season.

Next up A&M will hit the road for Mississippi to take on the Lady Braves of Alcorn State on Saturday, Feb 16, at 3:00 p.m.
