Bulldogs End season in New Orleans




Normal- The Alabama A&M tennis squads both had their seasons ended during the first round of the 2013 Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.

After a delayed start, due to poor weather in New Orleans, the fifth seed Lady Bulldogs fell to third seed Jackson State 4-1.

The Maroon & White lost two of three doubles matches, and the third was not completed. Quanda Jarrett and Jessica Taylor at the second position fell 8-1, to the JSU duo of Martinez and Condorelli to begin the contest.

The Lady Tigers took a 2-0 advantage after winning at the third position 8-5 over A&M’s Denise Cherry and Kara Kennemore.

At the start of singles competition, A&M fell behind further. First action to be completed was Kennemore’s fifth position bout. Condorelli of JSU defeated Kennemore in straight sets 6-0, 6-2.

Down 3-0, Morgan Shaw slightly changed the flow of the contest, winning at the third position in 6-1, 6-0 straight sets. Shaw was able to beat Lady Tiger Rebekah Adewumi to earn the first and only Maroon & White point of the day.

The reaming matches saw the Lady Bulldogs fall 6-2, 6-1 at the fourth position and 6-0, 6-2 in the sixth position. First and second position contest were not completed.

The Lady Bulldogs end their season with a 3-14 overall record, and 2-4 in conference play.

The Bulldog men suffered the same fate as the women, closing their season in the first round of tournament play with a 4-0 loss to Alabama State.

Once play began, the Bulldogs fell behind immediately as they lost the third position doubles match (no contest).   Desta Sandy and Evan Brown, at the second position narrowly lost their bout 9-7. The 9-7 loss was the longest game on the day, as an extra set was needed to complete the game.

Dominique Alexander and Nicholas Burger, at the first position did not finish their match.

With the Maroon & White down 2-0, singles competition began.  Action finished as fast as it began, as four competitions that were not played in their entirety.

In the fourth position, William Law fell in straight 6-0, 6-1 sets, and Evan Brown in position five dropped identical 6-1 sets to end the Bulldogs season.

The Maroon & White finishes the 2013 campaign with a 0-14 record.
