Volleyball Drops Two at Purdue Tournament

West Lafayette, Ind.  - The Boilermaker volleyball team picked up its first win of the 2013 season with a 3-0 sweep of Alabama A&M Saturday morning to start day 2 of the Mortar Board Premier volleyball tournament. Purdue won the match 25-12, 25-19, 25-13.
Alabama A&M cut the margin to 10 at 20-10, but the Boilermakers finished out the set with five of the final seven points. An ace by Purdue capped the 25-12 win.
In set two, A&M cut the margin to four at 16-12, but Purdue answered with six straight, including an ace by Powell to go ahead 22-12. Kills by the Boilermakers closed the door on the match at 25-13.
Offensively junior Leslie Ekpe led the way with seven kills to go with her two digs. Sophomore Kyanna Sales also had seven kills for the match. Senior Ashley Forman had 19 assists. Purdue outhit Alabama A&M .405 to .122 in the match.
The fourth-ranked USC women's volleyball team (3-0) cruised to a 3-0 sweep (25-13,25-14,25-9) of the Lady Bulldogs (0-3) on Saturday, Aug. 31, at Holloway Gymnasium in the final game of the Mortar Board Premier hosted by Purdue.
The Women of Troy were led by sophomore Samantha Bricio's 15 points, as the outside hitter racked up nine kills and a .444 hitting percentage to go with three service aces and four blocks.
For A&M, Ekpe led the way with 12 kills while Ashley Forman and Callie Percival recorded two kills.  A&M's setter, Forman put up 15 assists, seven digs and added a pair of service aces for the Lady Bulldogs.
Forman was the the lone representative from Normal on the All-Tournament team.

Things don't get easier for A&M as they play the University of Memphis on Friday, September 6th in their next match.
