Dr. Brandon Reeves has been selected as a featured speaker at the 2025 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Convention December 17-21 in Kansas City, Mo.
The AVCA Convention is one of the sport's premier professional development gatherings, and Dr. Reeves will present on a topic of growing national importance: Empowering African American Male Coaches in Collegiate Volleyball – The Challenges, Opportunities and Strategies.
"It is an honor to represent Alabama A&M University and contribute to a conversation that is vital for the growth and diversity of our sport," said Dr. Reeves. "African American male coaches bring tremendous value, perspective, and leadership to volleyball, yet we remain significantly underrepresented. This presentation aims to shed light on the barriers that exist—and more importantly, the solutions that can empower the next generation."
The session will explore the unique challenges, opportunities, and pathways for African American men seeking to advance within the collegiate volleyball coaching profession. Drawing on his extensive coaching background, academic expertise, and leadership within the HBCU athletics community, Dr. Reeves will highlight strategies to expand representation, enhance mentorship pipelines, and strengthen inclusive hiring practices across all levels of the sport.
The AVCA Convention annually brings together thousands of coaches, administrators, and industry leaders for four days of education, collaboration, and professional growth. Dr. Reeves' session is expected to be one of the convention's most impactful discussions centered on diversity, equity, and inclusion within the sport.
