MIAMI, Fla. | Alabama A&M delivered a balanced offensive performance to sweep Central Michigan, 3-0, on Saturday at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
The Bulldogs earned the victory by set scores of 25-22, 25-14 and 25-20.
Gerren Tomlin led Alabama A&M with 19 kills and a .385 hitting percentage, while adding nine digs. Rayishon Jackman recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs, along with a match-high three service aces.
Amya Jennings contributed six kills, while Carys Sanabria finished with five kills on a .364 hitting percentage. Kaydee Smith handed out 20 assists, and Briana Smith added 18 assists, 10 digs and two aces. Kelani Talakai anchored the defense with a match-high 15 digs.
The opening set featured nine ties and four lead changes. With the score tied at 22, Alabama A&M closed the frame with three consecutive points. A kill from Tomlin gave the Bulldogs the lead before Cherrish Robinson and Jackman delivered back-to-back kills to secure the 25-22 win.
Alabama A&M took control early in the second set, racing out to a 10-3 advantage. The Bulldogs extended their lead to 17-7 behind strong serving from Briana Smith and never allowed Central Michigan to recover. Jackman closed the dominant 25-14 set with a kill.
Central Michigan held a 12-9 lead during the third frame, but Alabama A&M responded with a 6-0 run to move ahead, 15-12. The Chippewas trimmed the deficit to two at 21-19, but the Bulldogs captured four of the final five points. Tomlin delivered consecutive kills to complete the sweep with a 25-20 victory.
Alabama A&M finished the match with 47 kills and a .301 hitting percentage while holding Central Michigan to 34 kills and a .187 clip. The Bulldogs also recorded seven service aces and 51 digs.
