Volleyball drops two on the first day of the Memphis tournament

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The University of Memphis swept Alabama A&M volleyball in each set in the opening match of the Tiger Invitational at Elma Roane Fieldhouse on the University of Memphis campus.

The stats were relatively even, but the Tigers (3-1) posted a higher hitting percentage each set to put away the Bulldogs (0-4). UM held a hitting percentage advantage of .033 in the first set, .371 in the second and hit .194 while holding AAMU to a .103 percentage in the closing frame.

Maria Ramos led the Lady Bulldogs with eight kills on just 19 attempts while Savanna Blackistone ended the game with seven kills.

In the second contest of the day A&M fell 3-1 to Southeastern Louisiana (26-24, 29-27, 21-25, 25-20). UIC collected consecutive victories in the first and second sets, while clinching the match in a 25-20 outcome in the fourth set to secure the victory.

The Lady Bulldogs won the third set due to Kyanna Sales season high 15 kills off of 44 attempts another season high for the all-conference pre-season first-teamer.

A&M will continue action on Saturday afternoon in the Tiger Invitational at 3 p.m., facing Western Carolina University.
