Alabama A&M Tennis 2014 Prospectus

NORMAL - The Alabama A&M tennis teams will begin their second year under Head Coach Willis Mbandi and have high expectations for the 2014 season.

During the 2013 season, the Lady Bulldogs were 3-14 overall (2-4 SWAC) and the men finished 0-14 overall (0-5 SWAC). Both teams ended their season with a first-round loss in the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.

The second year Coach Mbandi has made tremendous progress in terms of the student-athletes and scheduling.

"This year we have a lot of new freshmen as we are really looking to build the program. It's going to be a great experience for them playing their first collegiate matches and getting their inaugural year under their belt," Mbandi said.

Coach Mbandi will look for his upperclassmen to bring forth leadership to his teams.

"I am looking forward to junior Jessica Taylor to lead the women and senior Dominique Alexander to lead the men."

Both teams have lost a lot of seniors from the 2013 season and look to capitalize on the new opportunities.

"Losing a lot of good seniors isn't ever a good thing, but I am looking forward to building these new players that we just recruited" says Mbandi.

The Bulldogs start off their 2014 season with two tough matchups against University of Alabama (M) and Auburn University (M/W).

Mbandi stated "We have two very tough teams in our first two matches in Auburn and Alabama. Those two contests are going to be a measuring tool for our student athletes and see how we match up against some of the top schools in the area and the nation. We just want to go in and compete."

A&M will look to take advantage of their schedule, which includes tough competition and an increased number of home matches.

The Lady Bulldogs will have their first home match against Albany State University on March 7th. The men will face Western Kentucky University in their first home matchup the following day on March 8th.
