Bulldog Basketball to Host Golden Lions Saturday Afternoon

NORMAL - Alabama A&M women's and men's basketball teams will host the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff in their first home games of the new year.  The matches are set for 4 and 6 p.m. at the T.M. Elmore Gymnasium on Saturday, January 11.
 
The women boosts a record of 2-10 overall and 0-2 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference but have won the last two in the series with the Golden Lions and seven of the last eight.
 
Two Bulldogs scored double figures against Grambling State in the Maroon and White last outing.  Brittney Strickland tallied 32 points and 10 rebounds for her career high, while Taylor Sippial finished with 10 points and four assists.
 
Chistina Lasane and Jazmyne Victorian scored a team-high 13 points each but the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff (1-10, 0-1) fell short, 60-49, and suffered its first loss of the season in its SWAC opener at Mississippi Valley inside the Civic Center in Greenwood, Mississippi.
 
Currently head coach Semeka Randall and the Bulldogs are 2-2 in the friendly confines of Elmore Gym this season.
 
The men's team will be back in action after winning at Jackson State 68-61 and Grambling State 70-58 last week. They will be looking to extend its two game winning streak at 6 p.m. in Elmore.
 
A&M, 1-1 at home this season, lost its only game at Elmore this year, falling to Jacksonville State, 76-69 on Nov. 25.


The Bulldogs rank fifth in the league in field goal percentage defense with 41 percent and is fourth in scoring defense (70.2 ppg). AAMU has held 10 of its 12 opponents under 40 percent from the field, and only two teams have scored under 60 points against the Bulldogs.
 
Offensively, A&M is averaging 63.5 points a game and hitting 38 percent of its field goal tries.
 
UAPB (3-10, 1-0), Davon Haynes saved one of his best performances for the conference opener, scoring a career-high 26 points in the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff 78-73, victory over Mississippi Valley. The Lions defense forced Valley into 25 turnovers and saw the Devils shoot 24-for-54 (44.4%) from the field, 4-for-21 (19.0%) from the three –point line, and 21-for-30 (71.0%) from the free throw line.

As a team UAPB shot 26-for-45 (57.8%) from the floor, 4-for-13(30.8%) from the arch and 22-for-31 from the free throw line.
 
UAPB ranks 10th in the league in scoring (67.1 ppg) and ninth in scoring margin (-16.7 ppg), and is 30 percent from the floor (38.1) as a team. The Golden Lions leads the conference in steals with 10.2 per game.
