Lady Bulldogs host ‘Dig Pink’ volleyball match for breast cancer awareness Wednesday

NORMAL -- The Alabama A&M volleyball team will hold its annual "Dig Pink" event Wednesday in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month in the T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.

The Lady Bulldogs will host in-state rival Jacksonville State.

Ashundria McNeal had 21 kills and Kyanna Seals added 15 to lead the Lady Bulldogs volleyball team to a 3-1 win last Friday over Mississippi Valley State.

The win evened the Lady Bulldogs' record to 1-1 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference and 6-15 overall. Lauren Butler contributed 34 assists in the match and Charity Powell had 11 for the Lady Bulldogs.

Jacksonville State dropped its first Ohio Valley Conference match of the season, 3-2, to Belmont last Saturday afternoon at Pete Mathews Coliseum. The loss snapped a six-game win streak for Jacksonville State and was the first defeat at home this season.

"Dig Pink" is a nationwide campaign in the volleyball world that raises money for breast cancer. This game is great way for head coach Rose Powell and her Lady Bulldogs to raise awareness and celebrate survivors of breast cancer.

A&M volleyball is asking everyone to come out and support in pink attire while the team Volleys for the Cure on the court against the Gamecocks.

This event is free and open to the public; it will include games, contests and prizes for all in attendance.

Wednesday's game begins at 7 p.m. and can be followed via live stats.
