WVB Tourney: The Jaguars Sweep the Bulldogs, 3-0

Box Score BATON ROUGE, La. – The Jaguars of Southern swept Alabama A&M, 3-0, Saturday morning at the Cliford Seymour Gymnasium. Match scores include: 25-18, 25-18, 25-20.

Kyanna Sales led the match with 11 kills, while Megan Butler provided 25 assists. Libero of the Year, Diamond Williams, earned a match-high 15 digs.

An attack error by Alabama A&M gave Southern the first point of the match. An impeccable rally between both teams continued, but the Jaguars pulled ahead with a four point lead. A flustered Bulldog team allowed a lead of seven before requesting its first timeout. Alabama A&M fought back to catch up with Southern, but the Jaguars went on to finish the set, 25-18.

The second set continued much like the first as Southern provided an impressive lead, supplying an 11-3 score. Delivering a run of three points, the Bulldogs worked their way back into the set. Their work was soon over passed by the Jaguars under the serving of Marisol Macias. Southern's seven-point run ended due to a Jaguar error, but proved effective as Southern marched forward, winning the set.

Southern began the third set with a 3-0 lead. A couple of score from the Bulldogs ended the run, but did not hold the Jaguars back from moving up in points. A kill from Sales put Alabama A&M back in the set as she served up four consecutive balls, including an ace, bring the score to a 9-7 score. AAMU provided a three-point run, tying the match at 12, then again at 13. A serving ace by Ashundria McNeal gave the Bulldogs their first scoring lead of the set. Lengthy rallies from each team continued throughout the set, but Southern was able to prevail, registering a final score of 25-20.

Southern will play Texas Southern at 3 p.m., while Alabama A&M plays the loser of match 4 at 1 p.m.
