Alabama A&M To Host Annual Think Pink Game

NORMAL - The Alabama A&M basketball teams will raise breast cancer awareness and pay tribute to breast cancer survivors on Saturday, February 15, at the Bulldogs men's and women's "Play 4Kay" basketball games versus Alabama State University. Tip-off on "The Hill" is set for 3 and 5 p.m. respectively.

Audience members are encouraged to wear pink to show their support for breast cancer patients and survivors.

The 2014 Play 4Kay initiative (formerly known as WBCA Pink Zone) is an opportunity for the nation's coaches to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research on the courts, across campuses, in and beyond communities.

The Cancer Fund is named in memory of legendary NC State women's basketball coach Kay Yow, who died Jan. 24, 2009 after a three-decade battle with cancer.

The Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research, in collaboration with the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), launched the initiative in early December. . It honors NC State women's coach Kay Yow, who worked alongside Jim Valvano at NC State before he succumbed to cancer in 1993. Yow, who has more than 700 coaching victories, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and learned in November she has stage-four cancer.

Since its inception in 2007, the Play 4Kay initiative has raised $8 million with $2.5 million being granted for scientific research and related programs focused on women's cancers thanks to the generosity and continued support of donors. However, there is still more progress to be made in the scientific community in regards to cancer research.

Get involved today by simply making an online donation, attending one of our national events and/or hosting a 4Kay event in your local community!

More than 800 universities have signed on to celebrate the "Think Pink" initiative and donate to the organization of its choice (the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or local cancer organizations or hospitals, for example).

Join the Maroon & White Basketball squads Saturday as they play for a Cause.  You are encouraged to wear pink in support of "Think Pink" and the Play4Kay Initiative.
