A&M Starts Second Half of SWAC Slate by Visiting UAPB

NORMAL  – Just as the Southwestern Athletic Conference season started on the road, Alabama A&M opens the second half of its SWAC schedule, Saturday night with a visit to Arkansas Pine-Bluff at the H.O Clemmons Arena in Pine Bluff, Ark at 7:30 p.m.

Third year Head Coach Willie Hayes, (8-11, 5-4 SWAC) had stumbled to UAPB earlier in the season 72-64, but is above .500 in the first half of league play. The Bulldogs defeated Prairie View A&M 67-55 at home in their last outing.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff (6-15, 4-5 SWAC) lost five straight games after opening its conference slate with two straight victories. Since then, the Lions have defeated Valley, by five points and scored a road win on "The Hill.

Alabama A&M's primary goals this season have been to play solid team defense, win the rebounding battle, and be efficient on offense. The Bulldogs have allowed only seven teams to score as many as 70 points and two to shoot 50 percent from the floor. A&M  has a +4.4 edge in rebounding for the season and has won that battle in 13 games.
 
The Bulldogs rank No. 4 in the conference in scoring defense (68.1 ppg) and has held 11 opponents under 40 percent from the field.

Two Bulldogs' are averaging double figures in scoring, led by 5-8 senior Jeremy Crutcher, of Hazel Green, Ala., who is averaging 13.1 points per game and dishing out 6.5 assists  per contest (6th in the SWAC). Demarquelle Tabb, a 6-2 senior from Greensboro, Ala., averages close to 10 points per game, and is 10th in the league in rebounding.
 
Marcel Mosley, of UAPB collected a game-high 19 points, six rebounds, six assist and seven steals as the UAPB topped Jackson State 70-69 Monday night.
