Texas Southern tames the Bulldogs

Box Score

HOUSTON – Senior Arthur Capers scored 19 points and led the Bulldogs in their final regular season road game versus Texas Southern University Monday evening.

"Our guys played hard and they didn't quit," said head coach Willie Hayes. "Texas Southern shot the ball well tonight."

The Alabama A&M men's basketball team shot 38 percent from the field on 21 of 55 shots taken. The Tigers were 25 of 60 from the field for 42%.

A&M took advantage of the fast break points outscoring TSU 8-5 and the bench points leading that category 23-16.

Texas Southern was led by Law Johnson-Danner with 22 points while Aaric Murray added 19.
The Maroon & White opened the scoring and held a five point lead with 18:29 to go in the first half. At the 17:45 mark Johnson-Danner hit a jumper to give the Tigers their first and last lead of the contest.

As the opening 20 continued it saw TSU open a lead by 13 until Tyler Davis hit a layup that ignited an 8-0 run that ended the first half with the Bulldogs down 28-23.

The second half belonged to the home team as A&M did not go to the free throw line until the 15:01 mark. Action continued with the Bulldogs keeping the game close until the 8:42 mark when Texas Southern went up by 13, 54-44. They then used a 25-14 run to secure their 10th conference victory of the season.

"Our guys have to understand just because the referees aren't calling fouls that doesn't mean we should stop driving to the basket," Hayes mentioned.
A&M will closeout the season with home contests versus a pair of Tigers in Jackson State and Grambling State.

Action begins Thursday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. versus JSU in the T.M. Elmore gymnasium.
