Volleyball takes down MVSU 3-1

ITTA BENA, Miss. --- In the final road game of the 2016 season, Alabama A&M University volleyball team faced Mississippi Valley State for the second time and came away with a 3-1 victory over the Devilettes.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first set, the Devilettes  jumped out to an early 3-1 lead with three kills and it did not take long for the Lady Bulldogs to overcome early errors and take over the game to cruise to a 25-13 win. 
 
In the second set, both teams came wire-to-wire until a 14-14 stalemate. From there, four kills, a service ace and a Devilettes' attack error helped the Lady Bulldogs take a 20-15 lead that forced MVSU to call a time out. Adding four more kills and two attack errors from the Devilettes, the Lady Bulldogs earned a 25-15 set win and a 2-1 match lead. In the third set, A&M took an early 3-0 lead before both teams traded points. Tied at 25-25, an attack error and set error from the Lady Bulldogs gave MVSU the 25-27 victory.  
 
In the final set, both teams battled closely again until the Lady Bulldogs gained a slim 22-16 lead. After that point, Riley Balsmeyer assisted Terra Brooks for a kill before MVSU committed two service errors that wrapped up the 25-19 set and gave the Lady Bulldogs a 3-1 match victory.

 
LADY BULLDOGS' TOP PERFORMERS

•Ashundria McNeal finished with 14 kills, 14 digs, and two service aces.
•Brooks contributed 10 kills, four digs and three block assists
•Rebecca Pierce led AAMU with 19 digs and Balsmeyer dished out 32 assists for the night.

STATS FOR THE GAME
•The Lady Bulldogs finished with 46 kills, 39 assists, and 64 digs.
•The Devilettes finished with 36 kills, 33 assists, and 47 digs.

WHO'S NEXT
The Lady Bulldogs will travel back to Huntsville to close out their season with six-home games. The Lady Bulldogs face Texas Southern Friday, Nov. 4th at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Health and Wellness Center.
