The Alabama A&M University volleyball team dropped two tough road matches in Texas Monday and Tuesday in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. The Lady Bulldogs first lost to Prairie View A&M 1-3 and then Texas Southern 1-3.
In Monday's match, AAMU lost to Prairie View A&M in four sets (16-25, 25-23, 19-25, 19-25).
Ashundria McNeal (Memphis, Tenn.) led with 15 kills while Terra Brooks (Tampa, FL) tallied 5 and Jaelin Gant contributed four. Rebecca Pierce (French lick, Ind.) led the team in digs with 12 and Brooks totaled nine. Riley Balsmeyer (Paoli, Ind.) contributed 27 of the team's 31 assists in the match.
On Tuesday evening, The Lady Bulldogs played Texas Southern and lost in four sets (16-25, 25-20, 20-25, 17-25).
The Tigers took the first set before the AAMU rallied back to take the next set but could not hold on and lost the last two sets. McNeal led the team in kills with 17 and three service aces. Courtney Oliver (Detroit, Mich.) and Tamar Davis (Inglewood, Calif.) each contributed eight kills. Balsmeyer tallied 37 assists. Nina Biggs (Houston, Tex.) led the team with a career-high 15 digs and was closely followed by Davis who contributed 11 digs.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action on Tuesday October 11 when they host Tennessee State University at 6 p.m. in T.M. Elmore Gym.
