HUNTSVILLE -- In a rare doubleheader volleyball match, the Lady Bulldogs made quick work of Alcorn State en route to a 3-1, 3-0 win Monday.

The wins move A&M into a third-place tie with Southern in the overall standings at 11-6. The Lady Jaguars visit Elmore Gym on Tuesday in the season finale.

It's also Senior Night for the Lady Bulldogs and first serve is 6:30 p.m.

Monday's matches totaled just 2 hours and 44 minutes, including a 58-minute final match.

In Monday's opener, Ashundria McNeal had 25 kills in the 3-1 win. Riley Balsmeyer had 48 assists, Jaelin Gant contributed 12 kills and 12 digs, Terra Brooks had 11 kills and Nina Biggs had 17 digs in the opening match.

In the second match, McNeal had 13 kills and 11 digs and Balsmeyer added to her league-leading total with 34 more assists

McNeal leads the SWAC with 522 kills and Balsmeyer has 904 assists for the year.

The opener saw the Lady Bulldogs post a 25-17 first set win but the two teams then engaged in a marathon second set before Alcorn State emerged with a 36-34 win.

Then A&M opened the third set with a 9-0 rally in a 25-10 win and closed it out with a 25-21 fourth set clincher.

The Lady Bulldogs made quick work of the Lady Braves in the second match, posting a 25-14 first-set win in just 16 minutes. They won the next two sets 25-14 and 25-20.
