Volleyball drops two matches on Saturday

MONTGOMERY --- 
The Alabama A&M women's volleyball team completed play at the ISTAP Collegiate Cup Challenge on Saturday, falling to Tennessee State University and Towson University in straight sets.  

 
Ashundria McNeal (Memphis, Tenn.) paced the offense for the second day in a row with 21 kills to go with 23 assists from Riley Balsmeyer (Paoli, Ind.).
 
"The First weekend was a big learning experience for the team," Head Coach Rose Powell said. "A lot of bright spots and players stepping up to contribute to the team.  As we move forward through the season, players will get better and learn from more time on the court."
 
Match 1 vs. Tennessee State
A&M (1-3) opened the day with a 10 a.m. match against Tennessee State(4-0). The Tigers won the match 3-0 with scores of 25-13, 25-7, and 25-7.

 
Offense/Defense
McNeal led the way with 15 kills, while Jaelin Gant (Birmingham, Ala.) had three. Balsmayer contributed 15 assists, and Nina Biggs (Houston, Tex.) had eight digs along with Gant's four. 
 
Match 2 vs. Towson University
AAMU's second match of the day was a 3-0 loss (25-4, 25-9, 25-16) to the Tigers of Towson University(4-0).

 
Offense/Defense
McNeal finished the contest with six kills, three service aces, three digs and one block.  
Gant added three kills, three digs, and one service ace for A&M, while Balsmeyer notched eight assists and one dig. 
 

Up Next
The Lady Bulldogs with travel to Lafayette, Louisiana Sept. 2-3 for a two-day tournament hosted by The University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
