Volleyball Wins Thrilling 3-1 Match at UAPB

PINE BLUFF, Ark ---The Lady Bulldogs volleyball team snapped its losing streak Friday evening after clinching a thrilling 3-1 win over UAPB in Pine Bluff, Ark., with set scores of 25-22, 25-16, 23-25, and 25-22.

Senior Ashundria McNeal paced the squad with 22 kills, seven digs and two blocks. Sophomore Jaelin Gant followed in kills with seven and added 11 digs. Junior Riley Balsmeyer tallied 28 assists and two service aces.

In the first set, AAMU hit .258, getting six kills from McNeal. They powered out to an early 16-9 lead over the Lady Lions. UAPB battled back to tie the game at 19, but A&M went on a 5-2 run to get to set point 24-22. A kill by McNeal gave the Lady Bulldogs the 25-22 victory.

The teams went back and forth, exchanging leads in the second. However, the Lady Bulldogs maintained the lead the entire set.  After A&M took a 19-12 lead, the Lady Lions went on a 4-1 run to cut the lead to four. After the lead cut, the Lady Bulldogs went on a 4-0 run to close out the set at 25-16.

UAPB came out strong offensively in the third set. They overwhelmed the Lady Bulldogs with an early 8-3 run. The Lady Lions went up 15-10 which prompted an A&M timeout. After the timeout, the Lady Bulldogs powered back with a 6-2 run to cut the lead to two. Two kills from Freshman Terra Brooks allowed A&M to tie the game twice at 22 and 23. However, it wasn't enough as the Lady Bulldogs dropped the set 25-23.

In the fourth set, AAMU came out dominating, winning 10 of the first 15 points. The Lady Bulldogs took a seven point lead before UAPB answered and went on a 6-1 run to bring the score to 20-18. Despite the Lady Lions efforts, A&M continued to dominate the set and claimed the final frame 25-22.
