McNeal named to All-Tournament Team as volleyball drops pair in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, LA --- The Alabama A&M volleyball team dropped its two matches on the final day of the Sawyer Camillo Classic to tournament host Louisiana-Lafayette and Air Force Academy, respectively as the team continues to show improvement.  Despite losing its three matches in Lafayette, AAMU's Ashundria McNeal was named to the all-tournament team after she racked up 41 kills over the weekend.

Along with this honor, McNeal tallied her 1,000th career kill after her first kill against Nicholls State Friday afternoon.

In the first match, AAMU fell to Louisiana-Lafayette in three games by scores of 25-15, 25-11, and 26-24. Against Air Force Academy, the Lady Bulldogs grabbed the third-set, but overall fell 25-18, 25-19, 21-25, and 25-11, to move to 1-6 on the season.

Against the Ragin' Cajuns, McNeal recorded 11 kills, five digs, and three block assists.  Freshman Terra Brooks registered nine kills and Classmate Spenser Parks had four kills. Junior Riley Balsmeyer handed out 18 assists and seven digs for A&M.

In the Air Force Academy match, McNeal added 17 kills, five digs, and one service ace. Junior Courtney Oliver had six kills, three service aces, and three block assists.  Parks added six kills and five block assists, while Balsmeyer led the way with 19 assists and eight digs. Classmate Rebecca Pierce contributed 10 assists and recorded eight digs.  

A&M is back in action on Labor Day as they head to Martin, TN for the Tri-Match at UT Martin where they battle Northern Arizona University at 3 p.m. before taking on host UTM. For direct live stat links, please see below.
