Volleyball Powers Past Mississippi Valley State, 3-0

THE LEAD:
Terra Brooks delivered 14 kills and Courtney Oliver added eight as their contributions helped lift the Alabama A&M volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Mississippi Valley State on Monday evening.

Brooks hit .367 with three service aces and 10 digs, while Oliver hit .412 with five digs. Meredith Sieck led the way with 26 assists in the victory for the Lady Bulldogs, while Riley Balsmeyer contributed six. 

Helena Figueriedo led all players with 14 digs and Sieck contributed eight.

  • The two teams traded points through the first set, with the last being at 16. The Lady Bulldogs went on a 6-1 run to take a 22-17 lead. The Devilettes would continue to battle but a kill from Brooks and a ball handling error from MVSU would allow AAMU to secure the set.
  • In the second, the Lady Bulldogs got out to a strong 18-8 start. The Devilettes chipped away at the deficit by responding with a 10-7 run. MVSU was able to trim it to 22-18, but the Lady Bulldogs finished off the set with a kill from Gant.
  • The final set seen AAMU dominating offensively out of the gate as they took an early 11-4 lead. Although MVSU, continued battling, the Lady Bulldogs proved to be too much for them as they extended their lead, only allowing the Devilettes nine points the entire set.
