MBB Preview: Bulldogs at Samford Tonight

BIRMINGHAM --The 2017-18 basketball season is off and running for the Alabama A&M men's basketball team. After a tough battle in an opening loss at Ohio, the Bulldogs head to Birmingham for an in-state matchup with Samford Bulldogs in the Pete Hanna Center on Monday Night.

Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. and the matchup will broadcast on the Southern Conference Digital Network.

Both teams look to grab their first win of the season as they both fell in their season openers over the weekend. While Alabama A&M dropped a 61-53 decision against Ohio University, Samford fell at Arkansas, 95-56.

Mohamed Sherif had 14 points and seven rebounds for the Bulldogs, while Arthur Johnson had 12 points and seven boards. De'Ederick Petty was amongst other Bulldogs who contributed for AAMU Saturday night, adding eight points followed by Andre Kennedy, who tallied seven points and six rebounds.

In their road loss at Arkansas, Samford was led in scoring by Alex Thompson with 10 points. Demetrius Denzel-Dyson added eight points, and Christen Cunningham chipped in with seven.

Samford holds a 2-0 record in its all-time series against AAMU. The last time the teams met was on Dec. 2, 1990, when Samford earned an 86-81 victory.

The Bulldogs will be in action Friday at 6 p.m. (CT) as they return to the road to face Alabama in another tough non-conference matchup. The game will broadcast on the SEC Network.
