Lady Bulldogs Set to Face Prairie View A&M in SWAC Quarterfinals

HUNTSVILLE --- With the regular season wrapped up, it's time for the Alabama A&M volleyball team to take on the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament this weekend in Jackson M.S.

The top eight teams based on SWAC league-play records qualify for the tournament. This season, the tournament will be single-elimination, and teams will be seeded 1-8 regardless of divisional affiliation.

This year marks the 29th year schools will participate in the league's tournament. The winner of the tournament receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs will face No. 7 Prairie View A&M in the opening round on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the Williams Assembly Center on the campus of Jackson State. Alabama State claimed the regular season title and will be the top seed while the Lady Bulldogs as the No. 2 seed. Texas Southern and Arkansas-Pine Bluff battle as the No. 3 and 4 teams, respectively, while Grambling State (5), Southern (6), and Jackson State (8) round out the seeding. (FULL BRACKET)

For the season, the Lady Bulldogs are 14-18 overall and 14-4 in SWAC matches.

Meredith Sieck earned SWAC Freshman of the Year honors, voted on by the league's coaches and sports information directors, on Tuesday afternoon. Sieck set the standard among SWAC setters in her freshman season. She led the conference with 881 assists and 8.31 assists per set.

Sieck posted three of the five-best-single-game assist efforts by any league player this season and cracked the 50-assist plateau twice during the year. She also earned two Newcomer of the Week honors (Sept, 27, Oct. 4) and one Setter of the Week honor (Sept. 27) this season.

Syretha Pride joined Sieck in receiving SWAC honors as the senior was named to the All-SWAC first team. Pride finished the regular season with 229 kills and with a .309 hitting percentage. She had a total of 111 blocks for the season and a 1.11 per set average.

Every match of the tournament will be streamed live at the following link while the championship match is slated for an ESPN3 broadcast on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. CST. Fans can follow live stats for all matches and check the SWAC website for box scores and photos after the match's completion.

Admission to each tournament match is $5.00 per day, or $10.00 for a tournament pass. T-shirts and programs are available for sale on site.

The winner of No. 2 Alabama A&M and No. 7 Prairie View A&M will advance to the semifinals and face the winner of No. 3 Texas Southern and No. 6 Southern on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. CT.
