NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Junior Arthur Johnson lead the Bulldogs with 21 points, but it wasn't enough as the Bulldogs dropped a 96-74 decision against Niagara University as part of the Barclays Center Classic Campus Round on Friday night.
The Bulldogs shot 66.7% from the free throw line after making 18 out of 27 attempts. They were 41.0% from the field shooting 25 out of 61 attempts. 37.5% of the shots came from behind the three-point line for the Bulldogs after only making six out of 16 attempts.
Other leading scorers in double digits for the Bulldogs were sophomore De'Ederick Petty who finished the game with 19 points and junior Andre Kennedy who added 12 points and six rebounds. Junior Mohamed Sherif added seven points and while freshman Amari Goulbourne led the team with six assists while contributing six points.
The Eagles would start off with an early 8-2 run over the Bulldogs before three-pointers from Goulbourne and Johnson would tie the game at eight. Tied at ten, Niagara went on a 17-3 run to take a 27-13 lead with 9:36 on the clock. The Eagles continued to extend their lead, but the Bulldogs were able to cut the deficit to five, five different times, but Niagara was able to head into the locker room at the half up eight points, 45-37.
In the second half, Niagara opened up dominating offensively to take a 58-44 lead with 12:23 on the clock. A layup from Kennedy and three Bulldog free throws, would cut the Eagle's deficit to nine. This would be the closest AAMU would be able to get as the Eagles continued to extend their lead in order to secure a 96-74 victory.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall 5-0 on the season.
The Bulldogs will close out the tournament playing Western Carolina at 3 p.m. (CT).
