Men's Basketball on the Road to Tipoff Against Michigan and Georgetown

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--- The Alabama A&M men's basketball team is on the road this week to take on Michigan and Georgetown as they close out their non-conference slate. The Bulldogs face Michigan first on Thursday, December 21 at 8:00 p.m. (CT). Two days later, they'll travel to Washington D.C. to take on Georgetown at 11:00 a.m. (CT).

Bulldogs at a Glance
The Bulldogs are heading into Thursday's match against Michigan 0-11 overall after a 90-58 loss to UAB on Dec. 16. Senior Guard Julian Walters, in his second appearance of the season, led the team across the board with 15 points, six boards, five assists and four steals. Classmate Marcus Merriweather added 12 points and three assists, while Junior Andre Kennedy added eight points respectively.

Sophomore De'Ederick Petty leads the Bulldogs in scoring and is fifth in the Southwestern Athletic Conference in the category, recording 12.3 points per game. Arthur Johnson is second in scoring for the Bulldogs posting 11.3 points per game. Sophomore Evan Wiley leads the SWAC with a .467 3-point field goal percentage. Kennedy is tied for fourth in the SWAC with 6.1 rebounds per game.

Scouting the Michigan Wolverines
The University of Michigan men's basketball team (10-3; 1-1 Big Ten) plays host to the Bulldogs after defeating Detroit Mercy, 90-58, last weekend. This will be the second all-time meeting between Michigan and Alabama A&M. The Wolverines won the first meeting, 87-57, on Dec. 17, 2011.
 
Leading all scorers for Michigan is Moritz Wagner and Charles Matthews. Wagner leads the team in points, averaging 15.6 points per game, while shooting 55.6 percent from the field (74-for-133). He has also dished out a team high 7.6 rebounds per game.  Matthews is averaging 14.8 points per game and is 76-for-142 from the field (53.5%).  He is second on the team with 41 assists, eight blocks and 3.2 assists.

Due to a right ankle injury, Jon Teske started in place of Wagner against Detroit Mercy and recorded his second double-double (15 points, 10 rebounds). Wagner is still listed day-to-day with the injury. Zavier Simpson is a player to look out for as he has come off the bench to average 10.5 points per game and has shot 17-for-27 from the field (62.9 percent).

Scouting the Georgetown Hoyas
Currently, the Georgetown Hoyas hold an 8-1 overall record after suffering their first loss of the season this past Saturday against Syracuse. In the 86-79 overtime loss to Syracuse, the Hoyas were led by Jessie Govan with 21 points to go along with eight rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Jagan Mosely matched his career high with 20 points, five boards, three assists and two steals.
 
Georgetown shot 45.6 percent from the floor on 26-for-57 shooting while hitting 25-of-30 (.833) from the free throw line. The Hoyas received more production from its bench, tallying 23 points from their reserves to Syracuse's five. GU was outrebounded, 44-37.

The Hoyas are led by Govan who averages 20.7 points per game and 12.4 rebounds per game. Marcus Derrickson is second on the team with 13.6 points per game. Jonathan Mulmore leads the team with 4.6 assists points per game and 1.1 steals points per game.

Georgetown will host North Texas on Wednesday, Dec. 21 before hosting the Bulldogs on Saturday at the Capital One Arena.
