Bulldogs surpass goal with mid-term signees

HUNTSVILLE – When the Bulldogs' football staff hit the recruiting trail, the goal was to find about a half-dozen players who could provide an immediate impact on the field.

Head Coach James Spady and his staff surpassed that goal as eight players are already enrolled in Alabama A&M and taking classes this semester.

"We are very excited that we already have eight kids on campus that we believe can help the program, right now," Spady said. "We definitely exceeded our initial goal."

The Bulldogs were emphasizing defense with the early signees, Spady said, and six are defensive players.

"We put a concentrated effort on improving the depth and skill level on defense," Spady said.

A&M also needed to replace quarterback Tuttie Ballard, the Bulldogs' top offensive player last year.

So, the Bulldogs signed 6-4, 225-pound QB Aqeel Glass out of St. Louis.

After signing the midterm players, Spady's staff identified the team's needs and concentrated on filling them with 14 signees who will be announced today at the annual football National Signing Day party.

The reception will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Clyde Foster School of Business multipurpose room on the AAMU Campus.
