GAMEDAY: MBB at Alabama State

MONTGOMERY, AL--- Alabama A&M men's basketball team travels to Montgomery to take on in-state rival Alabama State on Saturday, Jan. 13. It's the first of two games between the rivals, as Alabama State makes the return trip to Huntsville on Feb. 10 at 5 p.m. in Elmore Gym.

The game tips at 5 pm (or 20 minutes after the women's game), and will be carried on the Hornet Sports Network. As a reminder to all fans, the Clear Bag Policy will be in effect at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs enter the contest 2-15 overall and 2-2 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play after winning their last match against Mississippi Valley State 65-55 on Monday night.

Senior transfer Julian Walters had 14 points and six rebounds, while junior Arthur Johnson contributed 13 points for the Bulldogs. Junior Andre Kennedy added eight points and five rebounds followed by sophomore Evan Wiley led the team with eight rebounds to go along with his seven points and three assists.


De'Ederick Petty and Johnson leads the team in scoring at 10.1 points per game. Petty is fifth in the SWAC with .820 free throw percentage. Kennedy is also averaging 7.6 points and leads the team in rebounding and is sixth in the SWAC with 6.0 rebounds per game. He is also ranked tenth with a .423 field goal percentage. Wiley leads the SWAC with a .432 three-point field goal percentage and Johnson is eighth in the category with a .388 percentage.

Alabama State (2-14,2-2 SWAC) enters the contest after dropping their last game to UAPB 94-68 Monday night. The Hornets had three players in double figures in the loss with Jacoby Ross leading the team with 23 points. Branden Johnson recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Rodney Simeon added 12 points.

Reginald Gee leads the Hornets in scoring, and is eighth in the conference in that category, averaging 12.9 points per game. He also leads the conference in free throw shooting at 84.8 percent for the season. Johnson leads the team with 6.4 rebounds per game.

Alabama State swept the season series last season, winning the game in Huntsville 57-55 and winning in triple overtime at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome, 97-89.
