MBB Comes Up Short against UAPB, 69-62

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Alabama A&M overcame a 11-point deficit and two Bulldogs scored in double figures, but it was not enough as men's basketball fell to Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 69-62, at Elmore Gym Saturday night.
 
Alabama A&M dropped to 1-15 overall and 1-2 in SWAC play. UAPB improved to 2-14 on the season and 2-0 in the league.
 
Marcus Merriweather paced the Bulldogs with 15 points and Andre Kennedy added 10 points while leading the team with eight rebounds. Arthur Johnson had nine points for AAMU and three rebounds.
 
From the field, the Bulldogs shot 43.8 percent (21-of-48), 33.3 percent from the behind the arc (7-of-21) and 65 percent (13-of-20) from the charity stripe.
 
UAPB's Martaveous McKnight had a game-high 29 points with six rebounds and five steals. Travon Harper added 19 points, six rebounds and two blocks for the Golden Lions.
 
The UAPB defense was able to force 21 Bulldog turnovers.
 
The Bulldogs will be back in SWAC action on Monday as they host Mississippi Valley at 7:30 p.m. following the women's game.
