Women's Soccer falls to Alabama State to close regular season

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — Birgit Rijnders scored a golden goal in the opening minutes of overtime as Alabama State topped rival Alabama A&M 2-1 Thursday night in a SWAC women's soccer match.  

The match was the final of the regular season for both teams. Both Alabama A&M (5-11-1) and Alabama State qualified for the SWAC tournament, which is at Prairie View A&M.

Alabama A&M tied the score in the final minutes of regulation on a Valery Gomez goal. Teaggan Ilela scored a goal for Alabama State in the first half.

Jodi Medina had seven saves for Alabama A&M. Gianna Guyot had seven saves for Alabama State.
