Women's Volleyball sweeps Texas Southern, advances to SWAC tournament championship

ITTA BENA, Miss. — Alabama A&M has earned its spot in the conference championship match.

Jaelin Gant, Terra Brooks and Alana Cox accounted for 32 kills as top-seeded Alabama A&M swept Texas Southern 3-0 Saturday afternoon in the SWAC women's volleyball tournament semifinals at Mississippi Valley State.

Alabama A&M (25-14) advances to play in the SWAC tournament championship Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m.

Alabama A&M swept Texas Southern 25-21, 25-18, 25-19.

After edging Texas Southern in a close first set, Alabama A&M used a couple of lengthy scoring runs to put the Tigers away in the second and third sets.

Alabama A&M used a 9-2 run to build a comfortable cushion in the second set, and the Bulldogs closed out the decisive third set with an 8-1 run.

Gant led Alabama A&M with 11 kills, nine digs and a service ace, while Brooks had 11 kills and 10 digs. Cox added 10 kills, two blocks and two assists.

Megan Evans finished with 32 assists for Alabama A&M, while Mine Centinoz had 18 digs.

Alexis Austin led Texas Southern with 12 kills and three service aces.
