Volleyball Falls Twice on Opening Day of Mercer Bears Classic

MACON, Ga.--- The Alabama A&M University volleyball team suffered a pair of 3-0 setbacks on the opening day of the Mercer Bears Classic. After falling to Mercer, the Lady Bulldogs were upended by Jacksonville. They will look to rebound tomorrow when they close out the weekend with a match against UT Martin at 11:00 a.m.

Freshman outside hitter Alana Cox recorded seven kills to set the tone for Alabama A&M in its first contest of the weekend against Mercer. The Lady Bulldogs also received a boost from senior outside hitter Jaelin Gant, who amassed 11 digs, five digs and a service ace. Meanwhile, sophomore setter Megan Evans dished out 18 assists.

Gant led the way for Alabama A&M in its match against Jacksonville. In addition to posting eight kills, she also collected nine digs. Freshman Maci Battle totaled 15 digs, while Evans added 23 assists. Cox and junior outside hitter Terra Brooks in with seven kills apiece.

UT Martin will enter the final day of the tournament with a 5-4 record after going 1-1 on the opening day. The Lady Bulldogs enter with a 3-7 record as they look for their first win of the tournament.
