Lady Bulldogs Open Up Weekend Play With Consecutive Sweeps

JACKSON, Miss. __ The Lady Bulldog volleyball team swept both Arkansas-Pine Bluff (5-19, 3-7 in SWAC) and Texas Southern (6-12, 6-4 in SWAC) on Friday on the first day of the SWAC East Roundup.

Jaelin Gant led the way Friday night with 12 kills as Alabama A&M (13-12, 9-2 in SWAC) defeated the Lady Tigers 25-21, 25-17, 25-18. Senior Terra Brooks added nine kills and six digs, while junior Megan Evans recorded team-highs of 22 assists and nine digs.

Alabama A&M defeated the Golden Lions this morning, by scores of 25-20, 25-15, 25-18. The Lady Bulldog were led again by seniors Gant (15 kills, 12 digs) and Brooks with nine along with eight digs. Junior Maya Evans added eight digs of her own, while sister Megan Evans finished with a match-high 26 assists, eight digs and five kills. Maci Battle also finished with double digit digs with 11, her thirteenth such game on the year.

UP NEXT
The Lady Bulldogs return to action tomorrow as they continue to compete in the SWAC East Roundup. The Lady Bulldogs will have matches on Saturday against Grambling and Southern before taking on Prairie View on Sunday to wrap up competition for the weekend.
