Maci Battle Named SWAC Defensive POW, Volleyball Finish SWAC Roundup with a Highly Successful Weekend

JACKSON, Miss. __ Sophomore Maci Battle was named Southwestern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her performance over the weekend, as she helped Alabama A&M closed out another successful SWAC Roundup, finishing the five game event with a 4-1 mark.

After defeating Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Texas Southern on Friday, The Lady Bulldogs (15-13, 11-3 in SWAC) defeated Grambling and Southern on Saturday before falling to Prairie View on Sunday morning in their final match of the roundup.

AAMU 3, GRAMBLING 0
Senior Terra Brooks led the Bulldogs in the sweep over Grambling with 16 kills and 10 digs, her eighth double-double of the year. Junior setter Megan Evans totaled 23 assists and eight digs of her own, while Maci Battle finished with 16 digs, her fifteenth double-digit dig game of the season.

Alabama A&M finished with a .215 attack percentage, while holding Grambling to just .104 attack percentage of their own, as the Bulldogs swept with scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-14.

AAMU 3, SU 0
Alabama A&M displayed a balanced attack as Jaelin Gant, Terra Brooks, and Jayla Norman all recorded eight kills. Junior Maya Evans also added seven kills of her own, while sister Megan Evans finished with 29 assists, her 25th 20-plus assists game of the year.

Defensively, Maci Battle led the team in digs again with nine on the match, while the Lady Bulldogs earned another sweep by scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-21.

PVAMU 3, AAMU 1
The Lady Bulldogs were again led by double-doubles by Brooks (10 kills, 11 digs) and Gant (15 kills, 14 digs), along with junior Jayla Norman who finished with a double-double of her own with 14 kills and 10 digs in the final game of the roundup.

Megan Evans recorded 41 assists, her second highest assist total of the season, while Maci Battle recorded a career-high 30 digs. Alabama A&M fell in four sets by scores of 22-25, 25-22, 22-25 and 13-25.

UP NEXT
Alabama A&M will head back to Mississippi this weekend as they face Mississippi Valley (Nov. 3) and Alcorn State (Nov. 4), before returning home for the last home match of the season on Sunday, Nov. 10 in Elmore Gymnasium.
