Volleyball defeats Grambling in Four Sets, Advance to SWAC Semifinals

Box Score ITTA BENA, Miss. __ The top seeded Lady Bulldog volleyball team cruised past the Lady Tigers of Grambling State in the first round of the Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday morning in R.W. Harrison HPER Complex.

After falling in the first set 21-25, Alabama A&M (20-13, 16-3 in SWAC) turned the momentum around and won in four sets by winning the next three sets by scores of 25-14, 25-15, and 25-22.

Second Team All-SWAC performer Terra Brooks helped lead the way for the Lady Bulldogs with her team-high 11th double-double, finishing with 12 kills and 11 digs during the match, while also eclipsing the 1,000 career kill mark (1,0008 total). Fellow senior Jaelin Gant also contributed with a near double-double of her own with 11 kills and nine digs.

First Team All-SWAC performer and Setter of the Year Megan Evans recorded her ninth double-double of the year, recording 33 assists, 12 digs and eight kills. Twin sister and fellow First Team All-SWAC member Maya Evans added seven kills and four digs, while sophomore Alana Cox added six kills and three digs for the Lady Bulldogs.

On the defensive end, sophomore Libero Maci Battle recorded a team-high 15 digs for another double-digit dig game (21st of the season).

Next up the Lady Bulldogs will have a rematch against rival and fifth seeded Alabama State (15-21, 12-7 SWAC) in the quarterfinals of the SWAC Tournament on Saturday, starting at 2 p.m. The teams last faced each other on Nov. 15, with Alabama A&M defeating the Lady Hornets in five sets in Montgomery.

Both semifinal matches will be aired live on the SWAC Digital Network, with the winners of Saturday's matches moving on to Sunday's championship game, which will be broadcasted on ESPNU.
