Women's Basketball drops season opener at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. — Hannah Whitish scored 12 points as Nebraska topped Alabama A&M 68-48 Wednesday afternoon in a women's college basketball game.

Nebraska (1-0) used a fast start to build a 16-point cushion by halftime. The Cornhuskers led 49-31 after the third period.

Nigeria Jones led Alabama A&M with 16 points and six rebounds, while Deshawna Harper added 15 points with five rebounds. Dariauna Lewis scored eight points with nine rebounds for the Bulldogs.

Kate Cane and Ashtyn Veerbeek each scored 10 points for Nebraska.

Alabama A&M travels to San Diego State next Thursday.
