AAMU Tennis sweeps Alcorn State at SWAC West Roundup

BATON ROUGE, LA. — The Alabama A&M men and women's tennis teams picked up a pair of significant wins in the Southwestern Athletic Conference West Roundup, with both teams topping Alcorn State.

The Alabama A&M men's team beat Alcorn State 4-1, and the women's team won 4-3.

"It was a good win for both teams," Alabama A&M tennis coach Willis Mbandi said. "It showed the fighting spirit we have, to fight back after losing the doubles point.

"Our women's team turned it around after suffering a tough defeat on Friday, which showed character."

In the men's event, Fermin Ruiz-Gespo won No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-0, while Shakir Elvan won No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-2. RodrigoArana-Rios won No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-1, and Cristian Bigott won No. 6 singles6-1, 6-0.

In the women's event, Anita Bozhko won No. 3 singles 0-6, 6-1, 7-5, while Rida Khalid won No. 4 singles 6-1, 1-6, 6-2. India Woods won No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-2, and Nthasbieng Mashengo won No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-1.
