Alabama A&M's Kennedy selected for all-SWAC men's basketball team

HUNTSVILLE — Andre Kennedy wanted to finish his collegiate basketball career with a bang.

Mission accomplished.

During his senior campaign at Alabama A&M, Kennedy emerged as one of the Southwestern Athletic Conference's top post players, frequently posting double-doubles while helping the Bulldogs establish a foundation for the future.

Kennedy's play on the floor was strong, and people around the conference noticed.

When the SWAC released its all-conference men's basketball teams on Tuesday, Kennedy was a second-team selection.

"I am so proud of Andre Kennedy and the way he has developed into one of the top big men in the SWAC," Alabama A&M coach Dylan Howard said. "It's a great honor for Andre to be selected to the 2nd team, and it is well deserved."

Kennedy's all-conference selection was an individual milestone. It also was a milestone for the Alabama A&M program.

Before this season, there had not been an all-conference player from the Alabama A&M men's basketball program since the 2015-16 season, when Ladarius Tabb was a first-team selection and Nick West was a second-team selection.

On the floor, Kennedy was a force in the paint. The 6-foot-7 and 206-pound forward from Albany, Ga. recorded five double-doubles while leading Alabama A&M with 12.5 points and six rebounds per game.

Kennedy finished the season ranked sixth in the SWAC with 192 rebounds, and his 397 points were the ninth-most in the league. He also was tied for 10^th in conference with 20 blocked shots.

"Andre has worked hard to achieve this accomplishment," Howard said. "Andre also has represented Alabama A&M in the classroom. This past Spring he was on the honor roll and will graduate this spring. His two year career at A&M has been outstanding."
