Alabama A&M Splits Pair on Day One of Wofford Tournament

SPARTANSBURG, SC __ Alabama A&M split a pair of volleyball matches Friday, dominating Gardner-Webb 25-8, 25-15, 25-19 before suffering a hard fought loss in four sets to host team Wofford College, 20-25, 15-25, 26-24, 19-25 in day-one at the Wofford Tournament.

In the tournament's opening match, the Lady Bulldogs recorded a total 42 kills and an attack percentage of .354 in a dominating sweep over Big South foe Gardner-Webb University in a battle of the Bulldogs.

Alabama A&M (4-5) struggled in their second match of the day, falling to host and Southern Conference opponent Wofford College in four sets. The Lady Bulldogs recorded a .080 attack percentage, the lowest of the season.
 
AAMU 3, GWU 2
Senior Chicago State transfer Karen Asprilla led the Lady Bulldogs with 8 kills. Senior Jaelin Gant added another eight while Cal State Fullerton transfer Jayla Norman tallied six for Alabama A&M's offensive attack.

Junior reigning SWAC Newcomer and Setter of the Year Megan Evans finished the match with 26 assists and seven kills, while sophomore Alana Cox added five.

Sophomore Maci Battle finished with double-double digs with 16 digs along with serving up a pair of aces. Gant (12) also posted a double-digit dig total, her second of the year.

WOFFORD 3, AAMU 1
Megan Evans recorded her first double-double of the season, contributing a match-high 18 digs and 17 assists. Jaelin Gant also posted eight kills and four digs for the Lady Bulldogs.

Battle contributed 17 digs on the defensive effort, marking her fourth double-digit dig game of the season.

UP NEXT
Alabama A&M will play in their home opener, hosting Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Elmore Gymnasium. The 6 o'clock p.m. tip-off is scheduled as a "Maroon Out."
