Lady Bulldogs Fall to Middle Tennessee

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. __ A strong "Maroon Out" crowd was not enough to push Alabama A&M to victory in their home opener Tuesday night in T.M. Elmore Gymnasium. The Bulldogs (4-7) posted strong set scores but fell to visiting Middle Tennessee (3-6), 3-0.
 
After the Lady Bulldogs opened up with the first two points of the game, the two teams traded points for the beginning of the first set. The Bulldogs looked to make a run when senior Terra Brooks earned a kill to tie the score at 10; however, the Lady Blue Raiders grew their lead to as many as seven before ultimately finishing the frame with a win. 
 
The momentum from set one carried along with the Blue Raiders in the second match as they gained an opening 10-5 lead, which was never really closed down by the Bulldogs as they fell 21-25 in the second set. 
 
While Middle Tennessee jumped out to an 11-3 lead in the third set, the Lady Bulldogs closed to within four at 14-10 on a kill by Ashley Jackson. The two teams fought back and forth for the remainder of the set, as Alabama A&M blocked a return to make the score 19-21, before the Blue Raiders closed out the set and match.
 
Junior Megan Evans recorded her third straight double-double with team-highs of 24 assists and 12 digs. Senior Jaelin Gant added eight kills, while junior Maya Evans added seven.
 
UP NEXT
The Lady Bulldogs will head back on the road to the Carolinas with road contests against South Carolina-Upstate (Sept. 20), East Carolina (Sept. 21) and Gardner-Webb (Sept. 21) over the remainder of the week.
