Bulldogs Look to Continue Home Win Streak Saturday

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. __ The Alabama A&M basketball programs will enter their first home doubleheader of SWAC play with a contest against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday, Jan. 11 beginning at 7 p.m. in T.M. Elmore Gymnasium.
 

Opening Tip
 
  • The Bulldogs enter their third conference game after going 1-1 on their road trip last week, falling at Grambling, but defeating Jackson State 66-57 for their first true road win under the Howard era.
  • Alabama A&M currently leads the SWAC in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.04), while being second in free throw percentage (.720) and being fourth in three-pointers made per game (6.1)
  • Freshman Cameron Alford is ninth in the SWAC in scoring (13.2) and top 15 in assists per game (2.0), rebounds (5.1) and minutes played (28.6).
  • Alabama native Cameron Tucker is ranked fifth in the conference in assists per game (3.2).
  • Freshman big man EJ Williams is coming off a great weekend, finishing with a 14 point, 10 rebound double-double against Grambling and a 17 point and nine rebound outing in the win over Jackson.
  • Seven different players average at least six points or more. Alford tops the team 13.2 per game, while Garrett Hicks is second at 9.9, followed by TJ Parham (7.9), Brandon Miller (6.8), EJ Williams (6.8), Cameron Tucker (6.7) and Jalen Johnson (6.1).
  
About Arkansas-Pine Bluff
 
  • UAPB is coming into Saturday's game off an 80-76 win over Mississippi Valley on Jan. 4. Markedric Bell scored a career-high 33 points on 11-for-17 shooting from the field and going 10-for-11 from the free throw line.
  • The Golden Lions have two players scoring in double figures. Junior forward Shaun Doss leads the team at 12.3 points, while fellow junior Markedric Bell is second at 10.7 points per game.
  • George Ivory enters his twelfth season with the Golden Lions and has a 129-230 record with the program. Ivory also led UAPB to a SWAC Tournament Championship in 2010, where they defeated Winthrop but lost to Duke in a second-round matchup.

Alabama A&M will remain at home to face off against Mississippi Valley on Monday, Jan. 13 at 5:30 p.m. before taking on rival Alabama State at the Bill Harris Arena on Saturday, Jan. 18 with the double header starting at 3 p.m.
