BIRMINGHAM, Ala. __ Alabama A&M University's track and field teams competed in the Samford Indoor Invite at the Birmingham CrossPlex over the weekend.

Several Bulldog athletes recorded new personal records, including junior Diamond Griffin, who brought home first place in the women's 800 meter dash with a time of 2:16.41.

"Winning this meet gave me a good feeling and motivation to keep striving for more and pushing pass my limits. This PR felt different both physically and mentally," Griffin stated after the event. "Prior to the meet I️ had a great week of practice and I believe that proper preparation prevents poor performance. I am looking forward to see what the future has in store for me and my teammates."

Sophomore Iylana Helenese made it through two rounds of the 60 meter hurdles and qualified for the finals with a PR of 9.00. "Overall I'm pleased with my results from this weekend since it was just my first meet," Helenese explained. "I really wanted to break 9 seconds and for the remainder of the season I would like to get better each meet since I missed the first 3 and win SWAC."

Sabria Wooten also finished with a new personal record in the mile run event with a time of 5:22.09.

"I am glad that I was able to capitalize and push through with a Pr in the mile at this meet. Overall I felt I executed this meet well by staying focused on trying to push through pain and fatigue," Wooten stated. "I feel with more meditation and strategic planning I will definitely PR again. The team did well overall with executing their races, focusing, and supporting each other. I am looking forward to seeing more improvement in the future for mine as well as my teammates events."

Comments from Coach Jones
"I am proud of the way both teams went out and competed this weekend. We had several personal records accomplished throughout the weekend which brings each individual closer to their goals. The team also saw numerous athletes qualify and make it through several rounds of the competition. This weekend I could actually see the fight in the athletes' eyes and they went out and became competitive. It's a Great day to be a Bulldog!"
