Lady Bulldogs End Two Game Slide, Defeat Prairie View 54-44 Monday Night

Box Score HUNTSVILLE __ The Lady Bulldogs displayed stifling defense as they held the Lady Panthers to 38 percent shooting from the field and 44 points on Monday night to gain their fifth conference win on the year.

Senior Jameica Cobb recorded her second double-double of the season with a 12 point, 10 rebound performance, while sophomore Dariauna Lewis finished the game with 11 points and 7 rebounds in the 54-44 win.

Quarter-by-Quarter
  • After falling victim to a 7-0 opening run from Prairie View in the first two minutes of the game, guard Jameica Cobb scored the first basket for A&M at three minutes into the quarter. The Lady Panthers stretched the opening quarter lead to 10 points at 14-4 before the Lady Bulldogs responded with a 6-2 run of their own, and finished the quarter trailing 22-14.
  • A&M battled to gain momentum in the second, by opening the quarter on a 14-2 run to take a 28-24 lead with 3:19 to play in the half and took a 31-26 lead into the locker room. Cobb led the Lady Bulldogs with a well-rounded half, finishing with eight points, six rebounds and five assists in the first 20 minutes. Forward Dariuana Lewis finished the half with six points.
  • After two scoreless minutes to open the second half, PVAMU scored with 7:50 to go to put the score at 28-31, before A&M finally got on the board in the third quarter with just under six minutes to play. Je'Naiya Davis followed up with a three-pointer to put the Lady Bulldogs up 36-28 going into the media timeout at the 4:13 mark. The two teams ended the third with A&M up 39-30.
  • The two teams traded baskets during the first few minutes of the final frame, with A&M stretching their lead to 11 on three different occasions during the quarter. With just under five minutes to go, PVAMU reduced the lead to 45-39 heading into a media timeout. Nigeria Jones knocked down the Bulldogs' second three of the game, pushing the lead back to nine points and a free throw pushed it back to double-digits at 49-39 with 2:25 to play. The Lady Bulldogs closed out the game by going 5-for-6 from the charity stripe over the final two minutes to win the game 54-44 over the Lady Panthers.

  • Alabama A&M starters: Nigeria Jones, Tierra Dark, Jameica Cobb, Dariauna Lewis, Lazurea Saunders
  • The Lady Bulldogs shot 20-for-55 (36.4 percent) from the field as a team for the game, 2-for-9 (22.2 percent) from the three-point line and 12-for-20 from the charity stripe (60 percent).
  • Alabama A&M won the battle of the painted area, outscoring Prairie View A&M 22-10 in the lane during the contest.
  • The Lady Bulldogs also won the rebounding battle in the matchup, outrebounding the Lady Panthers 38-29. A&M grabbed 12 offensive boards for nine second chance points, while PVAMU grabbed six offensive boards for three second chance points.
  • Bench production proved equal in the contest, as both bench units provided nine points to their respective teams.
  • Turnovers: A&M won the turnover battle, forcing PVAMU into 17 turnovers and scored 14 points off the miscues. The Lady Bulldogs turned the ball over 11 times and allowed eight points off of their mistakes.
