HUNTSVILLE __ The Alabama A&M men's basketball team has added three student-athletes to its 2020-2021 roster.
The group includes one post player in Anjay Cortez, and two guards, Eric Lee and London Riley.
Head Coach Dylan Howard was extremely excited to add depth and secure players he felt filled the needs of this upcoming season.
"We are very pleased with the class we have put together for this coming season," Howard explained. "All of the players bring several strenghts to the program. Outside shooting was a struggle for us last season and all three of the new additions shot over 40 percent from long range in high school and we expect that success to carry over when they get on with our program. We are very excited that these three student-athletes are now Bulldogs."
Anjay Cortez (Charlotte, NC – United Faith Christian)
6'8 / Forward
- NCISAA All-State recipient 2X (back to back)
- SPAA All-Conference recipient as a senior
- Top-15 big in the class of 2020 in North Carolina
- Averaged 13.7 points, 10.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.4 blocks per contest as a senior
Coach Howard on Anjay Cortez
"Anjay is an absolute steal for us this late in recruiting. As a combo forward, he will be a mismatch problem on both ends of the floor. At 6'8, he is long and athletic and shot around 45 percent from the three point line in high school. This is a luxury we have not had at A&M during our tenure."
Eric Lee (Tampa, FL – Surge Christian Academy)
6'4 / Guard
- Top 100 Player in the state of Florida
- Named to Hillsborough Top 24 as a Sophomore
- Averaged 15.0 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game on 45% from behind the arc last season
- Named to First Team All-Tournament at the Sun Bash 2019
- National Honor Society Member
- Special Olympics Champion as a Coach
Coach Howard on Eric LeeÂ
"Eric is the ultimate competitor on both ends of the floor. He will be able to play multiple positions for us and is a true gym rat. Eric is also a great individual scorer. His basketball IQ and overall skill level are exactly what we needed to put us in a position to contend in our conference as well as on a broader scale."
London Riley (Lawrenceville, GA – Discovery)
6'3 / Guard
- 4-year varsity player
- Named to All-State Team and First Team All-County
- Named to Gwinnett Daily Post Super Six
- Region 6-AAAAAAA Player of the Year
- Averaged 20.1 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, while shooting 40% from three-point range
- Set School Record with 36 Points in a Game this past season
- Two-Time Region 6-AAAAAAA Champion
Coach Howard on London Riley
"London is a very athletic wing who has the ability to play above the rim. He can score at all three levels and loves to take the big shot when the game is on the line. London was voted Player of the Year in one of the best districts in the Atlanta area."
