Alabama A&M Track and Field Program Boasts 24 Members on All-SWAC Honor Roll

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. ^__Head Coach LaShaunda Jones and her program saw a variety of success this past season, finishing third overall at the SWAC Championships, the highest finish in a decade, along with Na'Asha Robinson winning fourth at the USATF Indoor Championships to qualify for the Xfinity Women's 400.

In addition to this team and individual success, the program also worked and excelled in the classroom, having 24 student-athletes being named to the SWAC Commissioner's Honor Roll, recognizing student-athletes with at least a 3.0 grade point average this past academic school year.

On the women's side, nine student-athletes are multi-year recipients, led by Jordyn Hankins Nautica Merrell and Akia Slaughter, all four-year Honor Roll honorees. Juniors Maya Davis, Danice Loney, Sophia Madison and Sabria Wooten have achieved the accomplishment three times, while Iylana Helenese and Jayla Neal have all made the list two times a piece. The team finished with a 3.14 overall grade point average for the academic year.

The men's side had seven first time student-athletes on the Commissioner's Honor Roll, while Joshua Browning and Demetrius Hurry II are two-time members and Christian Bryant made the list for the third consecutive year. The team finished the term with a 3.04 overall GPA.

The conference overall achieved historic academic success, with 1,700 student-athletes making the Honor Roll during the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters, marking a significant increase of over 11.7 percent from the previous academic term.
