Alabama A&M Drops 3-0 Decision At Florida A&M

Box Score TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Alabama A&M (3-17, 3-5 SWAC) fell by a 3-0 (25-21, 25-9, 25-15) decision at Florida A&M (14-6, 6-2 SWAC) in an NCAA Division I women's volleyball match on Monday, October 18.
 
The first set started with both teams deadlocked at 11-11 before FAMU unleashed a 7-1 rally to take the lead, 18-12. AAMU would then score eight of the next 13 points to close the gap and only be down by three. The Rattlers would then close out the set by earning two of the final three points to win 25-21.
 
Florida A&M started the second frame with a narrow 6-4 lead before unleashing a 14-1 rally to increase their advantage to 20-5. The Bulldogs would then score back-to-back points before the Rattlers wrapped up the set with a 5-2 margin to claim a 25-9 victory.
 
The teams were tied 10-10 apiece in the third set before AAMU would deliver 4-2 punch to take the lead. From there, however, FAMU would flip the script and power out to a 13-1 run to win the set and match with a 25-15 victory.
 
Freshman middle hitters Ryann Tolbert (Southfield, Mich.) and Alondrah Santana (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) led the Bulldogs with six and five kills, respectively. Sophomore setter Isis Mitchell (Plano, Texas) ignited the offense with seven assists.
 
Mitchell and freshman setter Collen Kennedy (Santee, Calif.) came away with six digs apiece while senior defensive specialist Maci Battle (Meridianville, Ala.) chipped in with four digs to round out the top performers.
 
Dominique Washington had 16 kills for the Rattlers while Jasmine Robinson and Karina Pressoir notched 12 each. Irem Ucar fueled the offense with 38 assists and Dominique Turner led the defense with 17 digs and Washington had 10.
 
The Bulldogs will return home on Friday, October 22 as they battle against rival Alabama State. Game time is slated for 6 p.m. at Elmore Gymnasium.
