BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama A&M senior forward
Dariauna Lewis (Omaha, Neb.) earned her second straight Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Women's Basketball Impact Player of the Week, and the third of her career, as announced by the league on Thursday, December 23.
Lewis delivered an outstanding performance over the course of two games this past week, averaging 13.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 3.0 blocks and 1.5 assists while shooting 9-of-20 (.450) from the field and 8-of-11 (.727) at the foul line.
Playing at the FAU Pre-Christmas Tournament, Lewis would open against Southern Mississippi (12/19), delivering game-highs of 17 points and 16 rebounds along with a pair of blocks in a 70-55 loss that was much closer than the final score indicated. So much so that the Bulldogs tied it up in the third quarter before USM pulled away at the very end.
She would produce another outstanding effort in a 65-63 upset victory over host Florida Atlantic (12/20) the following day as she finished with nine points, eight boards, four blocks, three assists and a steal.
On the season she is averaging 9.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and nearly an assist per game while shooting .424 (36-of-85) from the field. Her rebound and block numbers are good for second in the league.
Lewis previously claimed the honor last week and was the first Bulldog to do so when it came into the league last year. She earned her first on March 2, 2021 and this week's selection marks the third of the year for the program with senior guard
Deshawna Harper (Indianapolis, Ind.) collecting the first on November 24.
The award recognizes the accomplishments of a player that made a noticeable difference in their team's games during the week and A&M's 6-1 driving force in the paint certainly did that.
Lewis and the Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, December 29 when they close out the 2021 portion of their schedule at Nicholls State. Game time is set for 2 p.m. in Thibodaux, Louisiana.
