Alabama A&M's Aqeel Glass and Spencer Corey Earn SWAC Weekly Honors

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama A&M senior quarterback Aqeel Glass (St. Louis, Mo.) and redshirt-junior kicker Spencer Corey (New Palestine, Ind.) have earned Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Offensive Player and Specialist of the Week honors as announced by the league on Tuesday, April 20.

AQEEL GLASS – OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Glass continues to make a name for himself on the national stage as he lit up arch rival Alabama State (4/17) in the Magic City Classic.

Beyond being the biggest game of the year when the schedule comes out, this year's special "Spring" edition also brought with it the opportunity to lock up a SWAC East Division Championship and earn a berth in the league's title game next month.

That is exactly what Glass did as the Bulldogs pounded ASU 38-14 and he went 25-of-40 for 372 yards, no interceptions and led the team with 45 yards rushing. Among that aerial attack were two bombs to senior wide receiver Zabrian Moore (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) of 44- and 38-yards and a two-yard rifle to sophomore wideout Odieu Hilaire (Belle Glade, Fla.).

With that effort, Glass and A&M will take on Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the SWAC Championship Game on May 1.

For Glass it is the second time this year that he has been named Offensive Player of the Week following a tremendous outing the previous week.

SPENCER COREY – SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK
Corey made his mark in the biggest game of the year as A&M bludgeoned rival ASU under the bright lights.

With an offense such as the one run by the Bulldogs, Corey isn't called on often for more than kickoffs and extra points yet he continues to perform flawlessly. He connected on all five of his extra points but came through in the clutch in a tie ballgame right before the half.

Following a blocked punt deep in ASU territory with nine seconds left in the first half and the scored knotted at 14-14, Corey lined up from 46-yards out and proceeded to belt it through for a three-point lead at the half.

That play was part of the turning point as A&M was able to capitalize on sudden change right before the half and watch as it ignited 24 straight points to close out the blowout victory. That field goal also ranks as one of the longest in program history, coming in just two short of the program record of 48 set by Rashad Cylar in 2003 against Southern.

Corey, Glass and the Bulldogs return to action when they head to Itta Bena, Mississippi to take on Mississippi Valley State. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
