HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – As a result of COVID-19 related cancellations this weekend that would have helped the league determine the host site for the 2021 Cricket Wireless Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Football Championship, the league has made the decision to relocate the battle between undefeateds No. 22 Alabama A&M (4-0, 3-0 SWAC) and No. 25 Arkansas-Pine Bluff (4-0, 4-0 SWAC) to Jackson, Mississippi.
"The canceled games would have ultimately assisted the Conference Office in determining a host institution for the championship game using our existing hosting tiebreaker policy," said SWAC Commissioner Dr. Charles McClelland. "Without having the ability to thoroughly evaluate both teams using that policy we felt the only fair and equitable decision that could be made was to move the game to a neutral site location."
That location will be 44,215-seat Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson, Mississippi, on the campus of Jackson State University. On Saturday, May 1 it will play host to two of the best teams in the country as A&M seeks its first SWAC Championship since the 2006 season while UAPB has not hoisted the trophy since 2012.
One of the crown jewels of the FCS season, the SWAC Championship Game will air live on ESPN2 to a world-wide audience at 2 p.m.
