HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – A tremendous season has lent itself to a bevy of awards for Alabama A&M women's basketball junior forward
Dariauna Lewis (Omaha, Neb.), the latest of which being the Black College Sports Network (BCSN) Division I Player of the Year and First-Team All-American honoree as announced by that organization on Friday, April 9.
Lewis delivered a dominant 2020-21 season, starting all 17 games and averaging 17.8 points, 13.0 rebounds, 2.1 blocks and nearly an assist and steal per game. She also shot .604 from the field (122-of-202).
Those efforts have led to her picking up BOXTOROW First-Team All-American honors for a second straight year and she was named All-Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) First-Team, SWAC Player of the Week four times, the league's Impact Player once and a BOXTOROW National Player of the Week one time during the season.
A force to be reckoned with in multiple phases of the game, she recorded 14 double-doubles, including nine straight at one point, to go with 12 games of at least 12 rebounds and a 24-point, 19 board effort at Southern (2/24). The 6-1 post also added a pair of outings with 17 boards, one that came with a season-high 25 points at Alcorn State (2/22) and notched four games with four blocks.
In the final game of the season Lewis would produce an incredible effort that surpassed those, scoring 21 and hauling in 20 rebounds against Grambling for a 20-20 game. That would be one of just three such efforts by a women's basketball player from the HBCU ranks all season long.
In terms of SWAC statistical rankings she led the league in rebounding and field goal percentage and was second in points and third in blocks per game.
Most impressive, however, was the fact that Lewis finished second in the nation in rebounds per game and seventh in field goal percentage.
